Cescily Christensen share an extraordinary talent for winning dance championships. The mother and daughter dancers share the love of taking ballroom and rhythm dance lessons and competing with their award-winning instructor, Justin McClendon.
McClendon, co-franchisee of the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Las Vegas and Henderson has been training Jeravae and her husband Michael since 2010. Cescily started to show interest in dancing when she was only 3 years old, and right away began taking lessons. She is now 9 years old.
[In January 2024] the Christensen family and their instructor, McClendon, headed to The Waikoloa Village Hilton Hotel in Hawaii for the prestigious Hularama Dance Championships. Donned with rhinestones, fringe and colorful costumes, the dancers competed in their age and gender-specific categories against other competitors in a variety of social dances.
More than 200 dance instructors and their students from the US and abroad came to compete for a variety of medals and scholarships at this Arthur Murray International sponsored dance event. “Although Jeravae and Cescily have a lot of fun competing, they also prepare very seriously for these events,” says McClendon, their instructor. “When they get on the dance floor, they know it’s time to show technique, style, rhythm, posture and accuracy in their footwork if they want to bring home the gold.”
Jeravae Christensen won both the American Smooth Scholarship for her excellence in ballroom dancing as well as the Rhythm Scholarship for her excellence in swing and Latin dances. Cescily won the Overall Top Student award for her Associate Bronze category and performed a solo routine in the Swing. Besides bringing home numerous 1st place awards in the smooth and rhythm dances, the Christensen family enjoyed a mini vacation in Hawaii after the 4-day championships were over.
